What is the Forum?
The independent Forum for Truth and Recognition (the Forum) has been established under the Inquiries Act 2014 for people who have experienced child sexual abuse in Victorian government schools and certain non-government schools prior to the year 2000.
This is a safe and respectful space for people to share their experiences, have their voices heard and contribute to the public record.
Through the Forum, we will recognise the trauma experienced and seek to support individual and collective healing. The experiences shared will contribute to Victoria building a stronger shared understanding of the lifelong impacts of child sexual abuse in schools so we can better prevent and respond to it now and into the future.
This is a healing journey that starts with your truth.
Why was it established?
In June 2023, the Victorian Government established a Board of Inquiry into historical child sexual abuse in Beaumaris Primary School and certain other government schools.
This inquiry delivered its report in February 2024. The report made nine recommendations to the Victorian Government, including Recommendation 3, that they establish a state-wide forum for people who have experienced child sexual abuse in all Victorian government schools.
