About us

What was the Forum?

The independent Forum for Truth and Recognition (the Forum) was established under the Inquiries Act 2014 for people who have experienced child sexual abuse in Victorian government schools and certain non-government schools prior to the year 2000 by a relevant employee.

The Forum created a safe and respectful space for people to share their experiences, have their voices heard and contribute to the public record.

The Forum was established in response to a recommendation in the 2024 report by the Board of Inquiry into historical child sexual abuse in Beaumaris Primary School and certain other government schools.

The report made nine recommendations to the Victorian Government, including Recommendation 3, that they establish a state-wide forum for people who have experienced child sexual abuse in all Victorian government schools.

How the Forum operated

The Forum was open to the public between October 2025 and March 2026 and heard experiences of:

  • people who have experienced child sexual abuse in a Victorian government school prior to the year 2000; and
  • people who have experienced child sexual abuse in a Victorian non-government school prior to the year 2000 where the alleged perpetrator was previously an employee of a Victorian government school and allegedly committed child sexual abuse while working there.

The report

The Forum has concluded and delivered its report to the Premier of Victoria on 29 May 2026. The public release of the report is now a matter for the Victorian Government.
