On Wednesday 12 November we recognise National Survivors' Day.
We recognise and commemorate the courage of people who have experienced sexual assault and institutional abuse, their supporters and people who have spoken up or advocated against abuse across Australia. We also reflect on the challenging and unique journeys of every person who has experienced abuse.
I would like to acknowledge the courage of people who have experienced child sexual abuse in Victorian schools and certain non-government schools.
The Forum for Truth and Recognition is now open, and I have begun meeting with people across Victoria to listen to their experiences of child sexual abuse in schools. I am seeing and hearing first-hand, the resilience and strength that people have as they manage the lifelong impacts of child sexual abuse.
I would like to thank the people who have come forward so far to share their experiences with the Forum.
I would also like to acknowledge the people who may not be ready to share their experiences yet, and who are navigating their healing journey at their own pace and in a way that is right for them.
On this National Survivors’ Day, I invite people who would like to share their experience of child sexual abuse in school to reach out to the Forum. There is power in your truth, and I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and listen to your experience.
To find out how you can participate, visit our Share your experiences(opens in a new window) page. If you need support, visit our Support and wellbeing(opens in a new window) page.
I look forward to connecting with more people across Victoria over the coming months.
Your sincerely,
Angela Connors
