The Chair of the Forum for Truth and Recognition (the Forum), Ms Angela Connors, has today delivered her report to the Premier of Victoria, the Honourable Jacinta Allan.

The report serves as a public record of victim-survivors’ experiences of child sexual abuse in Victorian government schools and certain other non-government schools by relevant employees before 2000.

The Forum’s report centres the voices of victim-survivors, some of whom came forward to share their experiences of child sexual abuse for the very first time. The role of the Forum was to listen to victim-survivors and believe them. The report reflects what victim-survivors described in personalised sessions with the Chair and in submissions sent to the Forum.

Victim-survivors recounted confronting experiences of child sexual abuse in primary and secondary schools across Victoria and explained the wide-ranging impacts this had on their lives. They wanted their experiences to be heard and acknowledged and to inform stronger protections for children at school now and into the future.

Ms Angela Connors thanks all the victim-survivors who came forward to share their experiences and contribute to this important public record.

Quotes attributable to Ms Angela Connors, Chair of the Forum

I thank all victim-survivors who came forward to contribute to the Forum. I am privileged to have been entrusted with your memories and reflections.

I hope that voicing and sharing your experiences, and knowing you have been heard, will support your journey towards healing.

Every experience of child sexual abuse represents a collective failure that deserves to be heard and acknowledged.

This report creates an independent public record of victim-survivors' experiences to ensure they are not forgotten.

I have shared my observations on how the government and the community can continue to prevent and strengthen the response to child sexual abuse at schools, now and into the future.

We must maintain an unrelenting focus on ensuring all Victorian government schools are cultivating the elements of a healthy culture that protects children.
